An afternoon at the museum

You will probably recognize this little baby.  She is the famous "winking baby" on my website.  I get asked about her photo all the time.  It was definitely a one in a million capture and it totally makes me smile whenever I look at it!  Her name is Anna and she is now 6 months old!  So hard to believe that she is now sitting up on her own and it is so interactive with everyone.  She has also developed the most beautiful eyes.  They are an icy grey blue colour!  I was in Amherst visiting for the weekend and snuck in a special session with Miss Anna.  It is so wonderful seeing old friends and the best part is when they have a beautiful baby that we can take photos of!  We went to the museum and did our session under some huge trees that sheltered us even when it started raining.  Anna had her own little entourage that included myself, her mommy and daddy and my husband (he was in charge of the reflector and trying to be as silly as possible to get some smiles from our model).  I think we all had a great time and Anna was so amazing being the centre of attention!  We ended our afternoon with the most delicous BBQ hosted by Anna's parents.  Courtney is still raving about the food from that night- you would swear I never feed him!  too bad we didn't live closer.  I could see a wonderful relationship developing between us all.  You could feed us in exchange for photo shoots!  It would be a win-win situation:)  Jill and Bryan, it was so great spending the afternoon with you both.  It was wonderful catching up and just having a fun, relaxing day.  I hope you like your little sneak peek.  I adored these photos so much and even though it is tempting to post all of them in colour since the green grass was so gorgeous, I know how much you love B&W photos! 

Mommy-to-be

This next session was a maternity I did for our dear friends, Mark and Lisa.  This session was done in a clover field that my husband and I had found a couple of weeks beforehand.  I had commented on how wonderful it would be to use for a session.  He reminded me of the field when we started the photo shoot for Mark and Lisa so we decided to venture over to check it out.  So glad I listened to him!  I first met Lisa when we were in pharmacy school together way back in 1998.  She is one the sweetest people you could ever meet and anyone who knows her could atest to that!  She is so thoughtful and considerate.  I remember when I first heard she was pregnant.  I was over the moon in happiness for her and Mark.  I just knew they would make the best parents for some little boy or girl.  The best part is that it is still a surprise on the gender of Baby W.  I can't wait to hear the news on his or her arrival.  My fondest memory of Mark and Lisa is probably our adventure driving the Road to Hana in Maui.  We have all agreed that we need to visit Hawaii again someday!  I must say that I also loved the girls road trip Lisa and I took last November to Maine for a weekend of shopping!  We had such a blast and I just know that once the baby arrives more fantastic adventures will be in store for us.  Rest easy these next few weeks and I cannot wait to finally meet your little one.

Jane at 5 months old

I could hardly contain myself when Jane's mommy contacted me and asked if I would do another session documenting her at 5 months old.  Of course!!!!  Jane was such a sweet, squishy little newborn who had all those fabulous hats.  I just adored photographing her back when she was so brand new and was looking forward to seeing her again.  When Jane and her mommy arrived at my house, I felt like I was in girl heaven when they dragged a suitcase full of clothes, hats and shoes for Baby Jane.  I think any photographer would feel like they won the jackpot when they are given such freedom to choose any outfit they wanted for their subjects.  We had so much fun dressing up Jane and she was such a great sport, laughing and making faces at us!  We even let her have a little nap when she decided she had enough and after she woke up she was ready to model some more for us!  I had the best afternoon getting reacquainted with Jane and was so thrilled when I downloaded the photos onto the computer.  I just knew that her parents would be so excited to see them!  Alison, it was wonderful to see you again. Every time we get together I feel like we could chat forever.  I can't wait to see you and Jane again... thanks for a great afternoon!

 

Dear Little Rylee

Have you ever seen a baby whose beauty took your breath away?  This is how I felt when I first saw Miss Rylee.  She is just a gorgeous little thing who has a big personality at such a young age.  The first photo I am posting is the very first one I took on our morning together.  I was just taking a test photo and when I saw this on my LCD screen I knew we were going to have a great session!  She never fussed or complained about being photographed and to my pleasant surprise and sheer excitement fell asleep while in one of my baskets.  Not very often do you get sleeping photos of 11 week old babies but Rylee was enjoying her nap too much to wake up and even amused our curiosity to move her onto my beanbag for more sleeping shots.  I couldn't have asked for a more perfect session and I could definitely tell that Rylee's Mommy and Daddy were extremely proud of her!  It's sessions like this that make me wish I could just take photos of babies every day!  Hilary and Geoff, you have a precious little angel on your hands and I am so happy that you chose me to photograph her for you.  I hope you enjoy your sneak peek and I can guarantee you will be thrilled when you get to see the rest of them!

I've Been Tagged!!

I have been tagged by two amazing photographers to list 5 interesting things about me!  The really sad part is that I don't think I am really that interesting at all!  The first photogapher to tag me was my dear Aussie Photog friend, Kristen.  You should really go and check out her work here... http://kristencook.com.au.  She has such a fun and carefree style that I just adore.  And I can atest to the fact that she is one of the sweetest people I know.  I hope that one day we can plan a trip to Oz to visit her homeland... and best of all to finally meet her!  The second photographer to tag me was the super talented Raye Law.  She does these amazing outdoor sessions in the most beautiful fields.  I love that sun kissed look that she captures.   Definitely go and see her work as well... www.rayelawphotography.com.

My 5 interesting things:

1. Photography is not my only career.  I am actually a pharmacist full-time and spent many years in school studying.  I love my regular day-time job but feel so lucky that I have found such a passion for photography.  It definitely helps to fulfill that creative side of me that seemed to be lacking before.  I certainly feel like I have the best of both worlds!
2. I have this weird phobia of drinking the bottoms of my drinks.  Just ask my husband, it drives him crazy when I won`t finish all of my drink but leave just a little bit in the bottom.  He always grumbles if he is cleaning up after me and finds glasses around the house with just a little bit of liquid left!
3. My husband and I have a secret, silly language and, sometimes, we forget we have funny little names for things until others overhear us and laugh at us.  The secret language includes nick names for each of us along with our two dogs.  He is Daddy-Locks... I am Kee-Locks... Bailey is Boo-Locks, and Kahlua is Lua-Locks (I really can`t believe I am writing this on my blog... I really hope my husband doesn`t see this... LOL!)  My family just loves it at Christmas time when they are handing out presents and aren`t sure who the gift is for... yeah, they think we are pretty silly too! 
4. I have an obsession with decorating and the bad part is that my style changes quite often which can be very expensive!  The only TV I watch is HGTV or TLC... love those house flipping shows and makeover shows.  I also have a secret desire to become an interior decorator as well... I wonder if I could add that to my list of professions! 
5. I am building a new home... which is fulfilling that strong desire to redecorate!  I get to start out with a blank slate so it has been so much fun planning and imagining the final product.  The only bad part is that I get so many ideas from the TV shows and magazines and then when I go to find the products for my own house, I discover they are not readily available or they are not practical.  I had my dream kitchen in mind, only to learn that marble is a terrible choice for a countertop (I think I even cried.... ``Nooooooo``... when the sales lady told me).

Follow Your Bliss...

I have been very slack on keeping up with my Blog lately but I couldn't wait any longer to share a very special session I did back around the end of May.  It was with two little ones who were turning one.  They hold such a special place in my heart because they were the very first newborns I ever photographed.  Their Mommies are long-time friends of mine who graciously allowed me to photograph them when they were brand new to the world.  I had been reading a lot about photography but didn't have any children of my own to practice on, unless you count my furry ones:-)  On that day, they were complete angels with both of them sleeping the entire time!  Looking back now, I know now how lucky I was on that day to have two newborns that were so cooperative.  And not wanting to disappoint again, they were amazing little models for me a year later.  They didn't wander off, posed for the camera and even interacted with each other for me!  This session was photographed in the field behind the house I grew up in.  Looking around that day, I realized how blessed I am to be doing something that involves two things I adore so much... photography and babies.  It is surreal to think that in the field where I trekked to school as a young girl, I was now doing something I enjoy and have such a passion for. 

I want to thank all the Mommies, Daddies, Babies and Children that have come into my life over the last year.  I feel so honoured to know that I am capturing a moment in your lives that you will look back on with fondness for a lifetime.  It truly is such a honour to share those moments with you.
